About Joomchi

Joomchi is a traditional Korean paper craft technique that transforms Hanji using only water, pressure, and friction.

As the paper is folded, kneaded, and rubbed by hand, the long Hanji fibers naturally interlock without glue.

The result is a material that is stronger, more flexible, and richly textured than ordinary paper.

Hanji is Korea's traditional handmade paper, crafted from the inner bark of the paper mulberry tree.

For over a thousand years, Hanji has been valued for its exceptional strength, flexibility, and longevity. Its long natural fibers make it unlike ordinary paper.

Known for its remarkable durability, Hanji has been used for centuries in books, artwork, architecture, and everyday life throughout Korea.

Handmade Hanji

Every sheet in this kit is traditionally handmade in Korea using 100% mulberry fiber.

Unlike machine-made paper produced in continuous rolls, each sheet is individually formed by hand and dried using traditional Korean papermaking methods.

Because each sheet is handmade, slight variations in size, thickness, texture, color, and deckled edges are natural characteristics of authentic Hanji.

These are not imperfections—they are part of the beauty of traditional craftsmanship.

The twelve colors have been thoughtfully selected to work beautifully together, making it easy to create balanced and harmonious collage compositions.
